Just add water
People living in Everett can learn how to capture and use rain water in their gardens at a class set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Legion Hall, 145 Alverson Blvd.
The class is free, and is offered by the Snohomish Conservation District and several other agencies as part of an effort to encourage Everett residents to install rain gardens.
Rain gardens are shallow depressions with native plants installed near a runoff source such as a downspout. They capture and slow rainwater so it can soak into the ground rather than fill storm drains. They also act as a filter for pollutants.
The class will cover rain barrels, terraces, soil amendments, buffers, berms, plants, paths and managing soggy spots.
