4A BOYS STATE: Players to watch

ZACH LAVINE

Bothell | Guard

LaVine can simply score the baskeball from anywhere on the floor. He is a big guard that can penetrate inside, but also step out and knock down the three. Because of LaVines length, it will be hard for teams to slow him down. But if they do, LaVine has help from Perrion Callandret, who is also capable of lighting up the scoreboard. In a recent victory over Lake Stevens in a play-in-game to the state regionals, LaVine went for 25 points and Callandret went for 27. Those two players keep Bothell alive in every game and give the Cougars a chance to make some noise in Tacoma.

DAVID TRIMBLE JR.

A.C. Davis | Guard

Trimble averages 14.6 points per game to lead the Pirates and has in all three of their recent state tournament appearances. He is a three-time Player of the Year in the Columbia Division Trimble is an unselfish player who looks to involve his teammates. His knowledge of the game helps him to be successful in on court situations. The Pirates made it to the state semifinals last year with a first round victory over Jackson, but have the sights set even higher this year behind the leadership of Trimble. Cooper Kupp and Devonte Luckett should provide Trimble a little help.

TUCKER HAYMOND

Garfield | Wing

Behind Haymonds nearly 22 points per game, the Bulldogs have won 10 straight games going in their quarterfinals matchup with Central Valley. Haymond gets a fair amount of help from TreVaunte Williams, who averages 16 ppg. Haymonds knowledge of the game helps him to be successful against any of the states elite teams. Haymond and his teammates will make a run at a state title this year, but if he comes up short, he is just a junior and will likely be back in Tacoma next season.

AUSTIN REHKOW

Central Valley | Guard

The Bears have won their last 17 games and have consistently climbed the state rankings throughout the season. Now they have a chance to make some noise at the Tacoma Dome starting Thursday. Austin Rehkow leads the way for the Bears, scoring 12.3 points per game. Rehkow and the red-hot Bears have a tough first round opponent in Garfield. Watching Rehkow and Haymond battle it out could be one of the finer matchups of the day.

JORDAN CHATMAN

Union | Guard

Chatman averages better than 20 points per game, making him one of the more formidable scorers in the tournament. He will lead the way in the quarterfinals against the lone Wesco representative Jackson. Union is a team to watch out for in this tournament, but was coming off a loss to Federal Way entering the state regional round. Jackson beat Federal Way in its state regional game. Upon graduation, Chatman is headed to BYU to play his college ball, but he and his teammates have Tacoma to worry about first.
