OAK HARBOR — Oak Harbor’s lone senior, Vance Freitas, scored in the final minute of the final game of his high school career to snatch a 2-1 victory from Everett.

The loss might have had playoff implications for Everett, but Meadowdale also lost their final game, allowing the Seagulls still take the sixth district playoff spot from the Wesco 3A.

Everett’s Yurii Boiko scored the only goal of the first half off of a Mitchell Bohart assist, then Gavin Stewart evened things up in second half off a Matt Jensen assist. The game stayed tied until the final minute of the second overtime, when Freitas managed to put one in, also assisted by Jensen.

“I feel pretty good about the season,” said Oak Harbor coach Brian Thompson, adding that his team of mostly sophmores and juniors allowed far fewer goals than they did last year.

“I think this group of boys can do really well next year. It is totally a team effort, nobody is a standout star. They play a very motivated, team-type game.”
