Criticism needs ‘constructive’ part

Regarding the letters, “Making others pay is not a right” and “Remove intrusion by government”: It would appear the writer is a right-wing ideologue and could be “enlightened” about some things. Regarding the critique of President Obama and the state of the economy: There are certain factors at play such as market forces, underregulated sectors such as Wall Street, oil prices and international competition that are beyond the control of even the president.

These same factors would’ve been at play and affected the previous president, George W. Bush, as well. But an ideologue would never concede that.

I have a great suggestion for removing “Big government intrusion” from the writer’s life. She stated that she and her spouse were recipients of Social Security and probably Medicare, etc. Why doesn’t she contact the federal government and tell them that she no longer wants to receive their “intrusive” big government benefits anymore? After all, then certainly her circle of friends and revered Republicans will support her during the rest of her retirement years, right? If it hadn’t been for the establishment of Social Security during the New Deal years of FDR, and other social programs in later years, the writer and many others would be living in total, wretched impoverishment right now!

The letter regarding health care without insurance is utterly unrealistic and out of touch. No way in the world, even if someone had a circle of dear friends, are they going to pool their money for anyone else’s devastating medical expenses. The U.S. is the only one of the richest Western industrialized nations that doesn’t provide guaranteed health care for all of its citizens. It’s a shame.

The writer’s revered Republicans have always agreed that the health care system in the U.S. was broken and needed to be fixed. Yet during six of the eight Bush years that they controlled Congress, with the exception of expansion of the Medicare pharmaceutical coverage (which they never came up with a way to pay for), they did absolutely nothing to repair the health-care system or come up with a better system of any kind to replace it!
