OAK HARBOR — After getting swept by Oak Harbor at the SunDome Invitational on Saturday, the Glacier Peak girls volleyball team got a little revenge on Monday.
In a back-and-forth match, the Grizzlies prevailed in five sets, 20-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-21, 15-10.
“I’m glad they’re not in our division anymore so we don’t have to play them twice,” Glacier Peak head coach Christopher Pratt said.
Ruby Mensing led Glacier Peak with 23 kills and 17 digs. Maddi Ober added 12 kills, 12 digs and four blocks, while Maria Darling chipped in with 14 kills. Feeding those three was setter Reanna Jarchow who had a match-high 52 assists.
Kayleigh Harper had 23 kills, 14 digs and seven blocks and Roshel Muzzall tallied 10 kills and 14 digs for the Wildcats.
“We had a tough time shutting down (Harper and Muzzall),” said Pratt.
The Wildcats came out strong in the first set and won it comfortably, 25-20. This started a trend where the two teams alternated wins to split the first four sets.
“It seemed that once a team got to 20, they got enough momemtum to finish the game off pretty easily,” said Pratt.
In the fifth set, the Grizzlies jumped out to a 14-7 lead, only to see Oak Harbor turn away three match points before finally getting decisive point to end the contest.
Although the season series is now even, Pratt doesn’t think that’s the last time the Grizzlies will see Oak Harbor this season.
“We’re going to see them again in districts,” Pratt said.
