Burning issue

Pizza Hut has decided to call off its much-derided “sausage or pepperoni?” promotion, which challenged folks attending tonight’s town hall-style debate to ask Barack Obama and Mitt Romney which topping they prefer on their pies (Page A4).

It’s just as well. Obama would have responded with a noncommittal discourse on the merits of cured meats, while Romney would have said he’ll tell us after he takes office.

Double trouble: A Michigan company plans to begin manufacturing a $40,000 all-terrain vehicle that doubles as a high-speed personal watercraft.

The Quadski stands to make history not only as the first combined boat and motorcycle/ATV payment in ill-advised recreational vehicle loan history, but also the first machine to enrage Audubon Society members on land and sea.

Golden anniversary: Finally today, we turn to the Rolling Stones, who have scheduled gigs in London and New Jersey as part of their 50th anniversary celebration.

In a nod to the band’s advanced age, the London concert will be followed by a coffee-and-cake reception in the activity room of the Upper Thames-Upon-Wandsworth Assisted Living Center. No gifts, please.
