EDMONDS — A train was held up for about an hour in Edmonds on Thursday morning after a bomb squad was called to investigate a suspicious suitcase, officials said.

Edmonds police were alerted to the abandoned suitcase around 7 a.m. The luggage was found near a garbage can and bench after a Sounder train had departed, Edmonds police Sgt. Mark Marsh said.

Police contacted the King County Transit bomb squad, which had an officer with a bomb-sniffing dog go to the station.

“One train was held up while the suitcase was examined,” Marsh said.

The dog gave no indication that there were explosives in the suitcase.

It was found to be empty without any identification in it, Marsh said.

Regular commuter traffic was restored within an hour of the suitcase being found.

The luggage was taken as evidence in case someone comes forward to claim it, Marsh said.
