NORTH BEND — Relatives of a man who was stabbed to death breaking into a North Bend home last week said he was showing signs of a mental breakdown last year.
The King County sheriff’s office said it’s still investigating Kenneth Boonstra and why he broke into the home and assaulted residents.
The Seattle Times reported that the 48-year-old lived in a travel trailer on the outskirts of North Bend. He was a truck driver and father of five who divorced in 2007. He had no serious trouble with the law until last year when he was arrested in two shoplifting cases.
Court records said his stepfather told an investigator that Boonstra had “dropped out of the world.” A brother told the investigator Boonstra was in the midst of a mental breakdown.
