Play areas at Walter E. Hall Park are improved

EVERETT – If you’re looking for a bigger playground with more fun and new play equipment, visit Walter E. Hall Park.
A $150,000 playground expansion and improvement project recently was completed at the urban neighborhood park. All of the equipment on the playground for 5- to 12-year-olds was replaced. A new playground was added for kids ages 2 to 5, and has disabled-accessible equipment, including a Pirate Ship climber.
The project is intended to encourage younger children to stretch their motor and social skills, and challenge school-aged children with feats of strength and agility on new equipment designed to turn their exercise time into fun and games, according to city spokeswoman Kate Reardon.
The park, at 1226 SW Casino Road, features playing fields, a golf course, a popular skate park and open space.
Reardon said that cost of the playground equipment and installation was approximately $120,000.
“The site improvements to improve ADA access and drainage in and around the playground cost about $30,000,”Reardon said. “The playground is already done and is in use.”
Walter E. Hall Park is open from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily. Visitors may note that landscaping and other finishing touches are still in progress.
The Casino Road area is home to a growing and increasingly diverse and transient population. With a more vibrant and inclusive play area, the city hopes the park can become the heart of the community, Reardon said.
