50 years ago (1963)

Appointment of Ernest C. Timpani, the present Monroe reformatory superintendent, to the position of superintendent of the new Washington Corrections Center at Shelton was announced today by Garrett Heyns, director of the State Department of Institutions. Timpani had been at Monroe since 1958.

Larry Hatch, football coach at South Junior High the past several years, was moving up to the Seagulls. He would replace Bill Langenbacher as second team grid coach. Langenbacher had resigned to move to Las Vegas, where he would forgo athletics to concentrate on teaching.

25 years ago (1988)

Today’s issue saluted pioneer businesses around Everett and vicinity. Among them was Stovies Stove Shop &Hardware at 1922 Hewitt Ave. Stovies liked to keep the best of the past in mind with its selection of old-fashioned wood stoves and Victorian type gifts.

Sister and brother Donita and Scott Hinds, ages 5 and 2 respectively, smiled beneath an umbrella while occupying prime curbside seating for Marysville’s Strawberry Grand Parade along State St. yesterday. Though dark clouds threatened, they parted and let the sun through by midparade.
