BOTHELL — Meadowdale’s Taylor Monroe-Jones scored in the 65th minute and Mavericks survived a late Mountlake Terrace chance to take the Wesco 3A South match 1-0 on Thursday.

Monroe-Jones’ goal came after the Hawks’ defense failed to clear a Mavs’ corner kick from inside the Terrace penalty area.

“It was a game of pachinko in there and we were able to put it away,” said Meadowdale head coach Wade Foley comparing the goal to the Japanese back-and-forth arcade game. “We had four or five opportunities, the ball just kept going back and forth.”

Terrace’s best chance came with 10 minutes left, when a shot clipped off the top of the crossbar. Meadowdale also hit the woodwork twice, but the game was not an offensive showcase according to Foley.

“(The match) was pretty uneventful,” said Foley. “It was played a lot (in midfield). There weren’t a lot of scoring opportunities.”
