Fairbanks, Alaska could have snow-free Halloween

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — The strange weather this year continues in the Fairbanks area.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported flowers are blooming and lawns are still green in the state’s second largest city.

In fact, the city runs the risk of seeing a Halloween without snow.

National Weather Service meteorologist Rick Thoman says that’s only happened once in recorded history, in 1938.

Temperatures have cooled this week from the 50s and 60s recorded over the weekend. Tuesday’s high temperature was 40 degrees, 13 degrees warmer than normal.

And residents shouldn’t expect snow anytime soon. A blast of warmer air is expected back in the Fairbanks area starting Thursday.
