MILL CREEK — The WEST Coast Aquatics team has scheduled a swim-a-thon on Friday and Saturday.
The competitive swimmers, ages 7 to 17, are expected to swim for two hours or up to three miles during the event. They hope to raise $50,000 for the nonprofit organization.
The swim-a-thon is a nationwide event that uses 5 percent of the money raised to support programs, such as the USA Swimming Foundation’s Make a Splash.
WEST includes all levels from beginners to national competitive swimmers. Children as young as 3-years-old can learn the basics. Students progress through the swim school program and on to competitive events.
A water aerobics group, a synchronized swimming team and area high schools also use the pool.
The fundraiser is expected to allow WEST to pay facility maintenance costs and resurface the pool decks.
