One couple is from Lynnwood. Another is from Lake Stevens.
And half a couple is from Australia.
The top 10 couples have been selected for a chance this Saturday to win a free wedding including the venue, the cake, invitations, photos and music on Whidbey Island.
“I’m excited I’m going to be planning somebody’s wedding,” said Gloria Mickunas, owner of Whidbey Party Girls, an events planner in Coupeville. “I look forward to making somebody’s dream wedding come true. I’m a sucker for a happy ending.”
Whidbey Party Girls and several other businesses banded together to set up the contest to promote the island as a destination for weddings.
Dozens of couples nominated themselves for the wedding at Dancing Fish Farms on Jan. 17. The total value of the wedding package is $16,000. The public voted online for the top 10 couples.
The winning couple will be drawn randomly at the Weddings on Whidbey Events tour on Saturday.
Annie Lane and Beau Fountain of Lynnwood said in their online story that life is an adventure and there is nobody cooler to ride with than each other. Jacqueline Rutherford and Nicholas Serrano of Lake Stevens said they’re so outdoorsy that family and friends call them the granola twins.
Scarlett Wandrocke said that it’s been difficult because her fiance, Corey Heiniger, lives in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. A wedding on Whidbey Island — in a place they love — would make them both incredibly happy, Wandrocke wrote.
Other couples include: Tanya Barker and Thomas Johnson of Freeland; Carol Gannaway and Jerry O’ Neill of Freeland; Tara Gilmore and Brandon Sims of Oak Harbor; Troy Haugen and Shantel Porter of Oak Harbor; Amber Herman and Kirk Reeves of Langley; Myly Nguyen and Pedro Chaires of Mount Vernon; Matthew Reinhardt and Janice Cox of Port Orchard.
