LAKE STEVENS — A two-alarm fire destroyed a duplex in Lake Stevens on Friday morning.

No people were home at the time, and two dogs were rescued, said Bruce Huston, a battalion chief with Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens.

A fire investigator and a Lake Stevens police detective remained on scene hours later. The cause of the fire was not determined, Huston said. Police were calling it suspicious, though.

The flames were reported at 9:43 a.m. in the 700 block of 122nd Court NE, on the east side of the lake. Crews also responded from Getchell, Granite Falls, Marysville and Snohomish.

It took about a half-hour to get the fire under control, Huston said. The fire apparently started in the B building and spread to the A building.

A Lake Stevens firefighter sustained a medical problem during the fire. He was listed in stable condition at a local hospital.
