Scuba diver who drowned identified; heart problems were a factor

CAMANO ISLAND — A scuba diver who drowned Saturday near Camano Island has been identified as Steven Vern Lafferry, 66, of Everett.

Heart problems were a factor in the death, which was ruled an accident, according to the Island County coroner’s office.

Lafferry went into the water on the west side of the island about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. He was diving alone.

Kayakers found his body about two hours later, officials said.
