Front Porch: Candidate forum Wednesday in Lynnwood

Candidates running for Snohomish County executive and the Lynnwood City Council have been invited to a public forum from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Lynnwood Library, 19200 44th Ave. W. The primary is scheduled Aug. 4. The Snohomish County auditor mailed ballots Thursday.

Sponsors include the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County, Sno-Isle Libraries, the American Association of University Women and the Snohomish County Elections Division.

Comment on replacement of railroad bridge: BNSF Railway is proposing replacing 48 creosote-treated timber piles on the south approach of the railroad bridge over Steamboat Slough with 24-inch steel pipe piles. The U.S. Coast Guard, the lead regulatory agency over the project, has posted an environmental review of the project and is submitting comments from the public. The impact statement is online at uscg.mil/d13/dpw/bridges.asp. Bridge near Monroe has reopened: Ben Howard Road, east of Highway 203 at Barr Creek Bridge has reopened to regular traffic. Snohomish County Maintenance completed bridge repairs early and has opened it ahead of schedule.
