Bredereck to helm new Y in Stanwood

Mary Bredereck has been named the new branch executive director of the Stanwood-Camano YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of Snohomish County.

Bredereck has been with the YMCA of Snohomish County since 1995 and has held many roles within the organization. She started as a part-time child care billing coordinator and worked her way up to Marysville YMCA executive director, a position she’s held since 2012.

“I can honestly say, when I started with the Y, I had no idea that it would become such an important and impactful part of my life,” Bredereck said.

The Stanwood-Camano YMCA broke ground for its new facility June 27 with an anticipated grand opening in the second half of 2016. For more information on the Stanwood-Camano YMCA, go to ymca-snoco.org/stanwoodcamano.

Help for your heart found in Lake Stevens

The event offered heart screenings for teens and youth ages 14-24. Heart disease is a leading cause of death in young athletes and one in 350 young people has an undetected heart condition. Local nonprofit Nick of Time Foundation aims to identify teens at risk.

More than 260 Lake Stevens youth participated in the event, with a few referred for follow-ups with cardiologists.

The South Everett Mukilteo Rotary Club is a volunteer organization. Other projects include filling Thanksgiving baskets, cleaning up Mukilteo Beach, volunteering at the Mukilteo Community Garden, and providing musical instruments, school supplies and scholarships to local students, among many other projects.
