EVERETT — As Aviation Technical Services grows, it has added some new faces.

The latest is Doug Dalbey. He is joining the company in January as its new vice president of quality, safety and technical training for ATS’ facilities in Washington, Missouri and Texas.

The Paine Field-based company does maintenance, repair and overhaul work on commercial airliners. It is the second biggest employer in Washington’s aerospace industry. It has grown in recent years, opening facilities in Kansas City, Missouri and Moses Lake, and acquiring a company in Fort Worth, Texas.

Dalbey was hired to help ATS keep its high quality and safety standards, ATS CEO Matt Yerbic said.

Those are critical qualities for a company that takes airplanes apart and puts them back together.

“As we continue to expand our business, it is critical that we uphold our excellent safety and quality record,” Yerbic said. “Doug’s expertise will be invaluable as ATS grows in order to maintain safety-first consistent practices at each of our locations.”

Dalbey’s career started in the mid-1970s when he was a fixed-wing aircraft mechanic in the Army. After leaving the military, he joined the Federal Aviation Administration in the early 1980s as a safety inspector overseeing maintenance and safety practices at American Airlines, Braniff Airways and other airlines.

He moved on to management positions in the FAA, eventually becoming the agency’s flight standards’ deputy director of field operations.

After leaving the FAA, he joined the CAVOK Group in 2010 as a vice president, advising aviation clients on safety, regulatory and compliance issues.
