PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon State Police identified a girl who has been missing since falling into the Pacific Ocean as Megan Owens, 17, of Marysville.
Lt. Steve Mitchell says the girl was one of four youths climbing Monday at Cape Kiwanda in Tillamook County. She fell off rocks into an area known as the Punch Bowl.
The Coast Guard sent helicopter crews, boat crews and rescue swimmers to search for the teenager, to no avail.
As seas got rougher, two local fire and rescue workers who were searching on their own watercraft fell into the water. One of the helicopter crews hoisted them out. One searcher was taken to Lincoln City for treatment and the other was returned to the beach.
Mitchell says the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office will continue the search.
