Anderson given Humanitarian Award
Don Anderson of Marysville has been named the 2016 Aller Humanitarian Award winner by the Everett-based nonprofit Hands For Peacemaking Foundation.
Anderson, whose background is in aerospace, was honored for his work to help drill wells for water in impoverished areas of the world.
Leading up to that effort, he led a team of Rotary members in 2000 to Guatemala to help tear off the second floor of Hands for Peacemaking’s Mission House as part of a remodeling effort funded by Rotary donations.
Hands for Peacemaking promotes opportunities for self-reliance in rural Guatemala.
It was founded in 1985 by the late Dr. Leeon Aller and his wife, Virginia, of Snohomish.
Former Everett mayor Pete Kinch is executive director for the group.

Broncos, food bank win ‘Souper Bowl’
Vicki Weatherbie’s first-grade class from Immaculate Conception Our Lady of Perpetual Help School collected 300 cans of soup for the St. Vincent de Paul food bank as part of a “Souper Bowl” fundraiser leading up to Super Bowl 50.
Like the football game, the Broncos also won this charitable match-up, with a bin for the Denver team easily beating that of the Carolina Panthers.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office held its annual awards ceremony Feb. 18, awarding 47 awards to 61 employees, volunteers and citizens.
