STANWOOD — Construction workers replacing a culvert under Highway 532 plan to extend the length of the highway that is closed in order to shift the closure to a more logical place for drivers.
A detour directs cars down Old Highway 99 North, just west of I-5 at exit 212. However, Highway 532 has remained open past the detour turn-off, creating confusion for drivers who then had to turn onto the wrong road at the closure point. Starting Monday night, the plan is to close Highway 532 at Old Highway 99 North.
Highway 532, the main route to Stanwood and Camano Island, is closed this week while workers replace a culvert underneath that was hindering fish passage. It is expected to reopen Friday morning.
