BOTHELL — Drivers will need to continue detouring around portions of 196th Street and 13th Drive near Highway 527 as work continues on the Olympus Meadows Trunk Sewer project.
A full road closure of 196th Street and other nearby single-lane closures were originally anticipated to lift this week but have been extended through October.
The roads could reopen sooner if work progresses more quickly.
“(Tunneling) took longer than originally anticipated, but the good news is those tunnels are done,” said Paul Richart, capital projects manager with the Alderwood Water and Wastewater District. Coluccio Construction, the contractor on the project, is now installing new pipe and connecting utilities and then will do final cleanup.
After wrapping up this fall, crews will return next summer to finish the project in an area over North Creek.
“The goal is a replaced sewer interceptor to serve the area as well as a section of water transmission main,” Richart said. The improvements prepare for future population growth.
