Letter: Get great genealogy help right here at home

The Saturday Herald recently had a great article about Ancestry Day in Tacoma. For those who couldn’t make it and are interested in “Finding Your Roots” there is a great place right here in Arlington – The Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society.
We just wrapped-up the annual Northwest Genealogy Conference in August held at the beautiful Byrnes Performing Arts Center at the Arlington High School. We brought in more than 300 patrons to hear how you can find your roots if you are a beginner (a free day class was held Aug. 17) or if you are an advanced researcher with classes on using DNA in genealogy research. Next year (Aug. 16-19) we’ll focus on “Where does your story begin” — Save the date! (register now at www.NwGC.org and get a discount)
SVGS offers free monthly presentations to anyone interested in “Finding Your Roots.,” In the SVGS Library we have more than 6,000 books and access to Ancestry Worldwide Library Edition, plus a lot of other websites of genealogy interest. Our website (www.stillygen.org) is a great source of information. Steve Excell, archivist at the Washington State Archives says, “Usually people who are serious family researchers enjoy helping others — We call it ‘random acts of genealogical kindness’ …” We can help you right in your home town — check us out!
