Very fishy: Salmon in the Forest event by Adopt A Stream Foundation, 3 p.m. Oct. 13 at the NW Stream Center, McCollum Park, 600 128th Street SE, Everett. The Bat Lady, aka Barbara Ogaard, rehabilitates injured bats for the Sarvey Wildlife Center and is a researcher for Bats Northwest. See trout, sculpin, crawfish and fresh water mussels through viewing windows into a trout stream exhibit, watch the 45-minute film “Salmon Forest” and go on a naturalist-led tour of the new half-mile elevated nature walk. Swifts: “Vaux’s Happening Project” is the topic at Pilchuck Audubon Society’s meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Everett Firefighter’s Hall, 2411 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Speaker is Larry Schwitters on this project that promotes the conservation of migrating Vaux’s swifts by raising awareness of the spectacular roosting events this species displays at a limited number of trees and old structures on the Pacific Flyway. Since its beginning in the spring of 2008, the project has documented over 8 million individual roosting events in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
Go batty: The Bat Lady, aka Barbara Ogaard, will make you love, not fear, bats. Live bats will be part of the presentation along with photos of bats from around the world and bat puppets, 7 p.m. Oct. 21, NW Stream Center in McCollum Park, 600 128th Street SE, Everett. Mountain of fun: Lowell Skoog will speak at the Everett Mountaineers banquet Nov. 5 at The Embassy Suites in Lynnwood. With a multimedia presentation, “A Living History: A Visual Perspective,” he will discuss how threads are woven through the Northwest outdoor community. As a skier, climber, flyer, writer and photographer, Lowell has been a part of Northwest mountaineering since the 1960s. He is creator of the Alpenglow Gallery, alpenglow.org, and founder of the Northwest Mountaineering Journal. He was a key member of the team that launched the Washington State Ski and Snowboard Museum in 2015. A social hour begins at 5 p.m.; program at 6 p.m. Advance purchase required; no sales at the door.
