Shrooms: Snohomish County Mycological Society’s wild mushroom show, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 16, Floral Hall in Forest Park, 802 East Mukilteo Blvd. The annual show features mushroom displays, mushroom kits, a free class on mushroom identification at 1 p.m., books and videos. Learn to distinguish more than 100 different species. Bring your own mushroom samples for identification. Free, with donations accepted. More at www.scmsfungi.org.
Go batty: The Bat Lady, aka Barbara Ogaard, will make you love, not fear, bats. Live bats will be part of the presentation along with photos of bats from around the world and bat puppets, 7 p.m. Friday, NW Stream Center in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Register by calling 425-316-8592. Cost is $5 for Adopt A Stream Foundation members, $7 nonmembers. Proceeds benefit Sarvey Wildlife Center and the NW Stream Center. Mountain of fun: Everett Mountaineers banquet Nov. 5 at The Embassy Suites in Lynnwood. Featured speaker Lowell Skoog on “A Living History: A Visual Perspective.” Skoog, a skier, climber, flyer, writer and photographer, has been a part of Northwest mountaineering since the 1960s. He is creator of the Alpenglow Gallery, alpenglow.org, and founder of the Northwest Mountaineering Journal. Outdoor Youth Connections will honor grant recipients and hold a raffle and silent auction. Proceeds will benefit youth education, recreation and stewardship outdoors. A social hour begins at 5 p.m.; program at 6 p.m. Advance purchase required; no sales at the door. Cost is $39.
