Letter: Let’s thank patriotic man who returned flag

I just read the article about Brian Browne, the patriotic citizen who turned in the 9/11 flag.

It states that he has never been to New York City and that it’s not in the family budget to travel there. I believe that he deserves a trip to visit his “old friend.” Certainly the people of Everett can help him get there.

I expect the VFW on Oakes Avenue, the Fleet Reserve Association on Colby Avenue, Naval Station Everett, the city of Everett and retired military (as we are) would be proud to contribute.

Alaska Airlines or Delta might possibly provide free round-trip tickets to New York. And a NYC hotel might be honored to have Brian and his wife stay.

Could The Herald, as our local newspaper who ran the stories spearhead and publicize the drive to “send Brian Browne to visit the flag”? Would this be something Julie Muhlstein could do? How about having a “Veteran’s Day in New York” goal?

I’m proud that Brian is from my town and I’d like to see him rewarded for his part in restoring a national treasure to hallowed ground at Ground Zero.
