Two hours, 2.6 miles: A guided community walk at Camano Island State Park, 9:50 a.m. Nov. 5. Meet at the picnic shelter near the boat ramp. Views of Saratoga Passage and Elger Bay, including a walk through a “fern grotto” and ravine. No dogs allowed. Trail booklets and maps are available for a suggested $1 donation. Free park-ing: No Discover Pass will be needed to visit state parks in recognition of Veterans Day, Nov. 11. This applies only to day-use access by vehicles, not overnight stays or rented facilities. This is the last free day of 2016. The cost of a Discover Pass is $30 annually or $10 for a day permit. For info, www.discoverpass.wa.gov.
Green days: Help keep Everett’s parks healthy and green. No experience is necessary and all tools are provided. Upcoming Green Partnership volunteer days are: Nov. 5, Forest Park. Nov. 12, South Everett Forest Preserve. Nov. 19, American Legion Memorial Park, with salmon-themed work party with lesson on salmon and forest restoration. Nov. 26, Howarth Park. Mountains of fun: The Everett Mountaineers banquet is Nov. 5 at the Embassy Suites, Lynnwood. Featured speaker Lowell Skoog will talk about “A Living History: A Visual Perspective.” Skoog, a skier, climber, flyer, writer and photographer, is creator of the Alpenglow Gallery, alpenglow.org, and founder of the Northwest Mountaineering Journal. Outdoor Youth Connections will honor grant recipients and hold a raffle and silent auction. Proceeds benefit youth education, recreation and stewardship outdoors. Powder: Seattle is on the 19-stop tour of “Monumental: Skiing Our National Parks,” presented by REI Co-Op. It will be shown at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Seattle REI. “Monumental” follows skiers in Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Teton, Glacier and Olympic National Parks and features the voices of park rangers and locals. Meanwhile, as skiers travel farther and farther, looking for untracked powder, a cast of skiers showcases what’s possible in national parks. Featured skiers include Lynsey Dyer, Max Hammer, Greg Hill, Colter Hinchliffe, Connery Lundin, Andy Mahre, Griffin Post and Kalen Thorien.
