LYNNWOOD — A couple had left ashes in their garage after cleaning out their fireplace.
Not long after, the front of their Lynnwood home was engulfed in flames.
Firefighters received a call about the two-alarm fire around 8:40 p.m. on Monday, according to Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes.
The couple was able to safely leave their home along 172nd Street SW.
Flames had extended inside the house and burned the siding of their neighbor’s home.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office deemed the couple’s home uninhabitable.
The total damage was estimated at $350,000.
They had home insurance. But in the meantime, fire district personnel were helping the couple find temporary housing.
