MARYSVILLE — A kitchen fire broke out Friday morning in a house along 140th Place NE. The family wasn’t home.
When firefighters arrived at the house around 8:40 a.m., smoke was seeping through vents in the roof. Flames could be seen shortly after, said Marysville Assistant Fire Marshal David VanBeek.
Three of the family’s pets died in the fire. One was taken to a veterinarian hospital for smoke inhalation.
The fire appears to have started near the refrigerator in the kitchen and spread up to the attic, VanBeek said.
“There was quite a bit of smoke damage,” VanBeek said. “There’s a significant amount of repair work to be done.”
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office estimated the damage at $100,000.
Five people live in the home. The American Red Cross of Snohomish County is working with the family to find temporary housing until they can return.
The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
