GRANITE FALLS — The work room in the post office usually is a place to park packages and letters, not vehicles.

On Monday around 1:46 p.m., an 80-year-old driver in the parking lot on the west side of the Granite Falls Post Office reportedly mixed up his brake and gas pedals. His compact sedan got past the yellow bollard posts and crashed into the brick wall of the post office, leaving a large hole.

No one was injured. The driver was evaluated at the scene and released.

The damage to the building at 205 E. Stanley St. is substantial, Granite Falls Police Chief Christopher Ferreira wrote in an email. An estimated dollar amount was not immediately available.

The hole in the wall has been boarded up but repairs haven’t yet started, a supervisor at the post office said. The post office is operating normally.
