Wear red next week

Feb. 3 is National Wear Red Day, which promotes heart health for women.

Heart disease and stroke are major causes of death in the U.S. Prevention techniques include weight loss, exercise and healthy eating. The city of Lynnwood is among local groups participating.

Trail work continues: The timeline for a project to improve Interurban Trail access in Lynn-wood is expected to be extended through December. About $8,000 in Snohomish County parks grants is allotted for the trail head at the intersection of 40th Avenue W and Alderwood Mall Boulevard. The total cost of the planned improvements is estimated at $32,900.

Recycling center closure: The Airport Road Recycling and Transfer Station has pushed back its scheduled closure due to winter weather conditions. Snohomish County Public Works originally planned to close the center Jan. 24 through Feb. 12. The new closure dates are Feb. 6 through Feb. 26. Public Works plans to make repairs to the compactors and tipping floors during these three weeks.

Help cats: The Community Cat Coalition offers its next “Basic TNR: Trap, Neuter, Return” class, 2-4 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Everett Animal Shelter, 333 Smith Island Road. The class is free but registration is requested. Send an email to cccowaTNRclass@gmail.com or call Nancy at 425-330-2658.
