ARLINGTON — Rescue crews rappelled down a steep embankment along the Stillaguamish River to save two men and a dog Wednesday afternoon.

The dog wandered down an embankment and got stuck east of Arlington in the 12800 block of 168th Street NE. The men followed to save the dog, but couldn’t get back up the hillside. They called 911 around 2:30 p.m.

It was probably a 200-foot drop off, Arlington Fire Chief Branden Bates said.

One man was about 50 feet down the embankment, Bates said. No one was hurt.

Emergency responders from the Arlington Fire Department, Snohomish County Fire District 21 and the Marysville Fire Department lent a hand in the rescue.

“Everybody was back up on land and happy to be there,” Bates said.
