TULALIP — The Snohomish County Violent Offender Task Force on Tuesday night caught up with a man wanted in connection with a shooting outside a south Everett motel last month.
A judge had issued a $500,000 arrest warrant last week for Leyder Sandoval Gomez after prosecutors charged him with first-degree assault for a Jan. 3 shooting that seriously injured a man.
Sandoval Gomez is accused of opening fire outside a Motel 6 on 128th Street SW south of Everett. He reportedly shot up his own car and a woman’s car before shooting a man multiple times at close range.
The task force developed information that Sandoval Gomez, 28, was at the Quil Ceda Creek Casino on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. Undercover officers located him inside. The task force and Tulalip police arrested Sandoval Gomez in the casino, according to court papers filed Wednesday.
Police reportedly found methamphetamine in the defendant’s pocket along with another man’s Washington state identification card. Reports indicate that Sandoval Gomez is a citizen of Mexico and has been the subject of alien removal actions, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Ed Stemler wrote in charging papers.
