ARLINGTON — The 17-year-old girl who was shot by two Arlington police officers Tuesday has improved from critical to serious condition.

She remains in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Police received a call shortly before 5 a.m. about a disturbance Tuesday. They found a couple arguing in a gravel parking lot near The Bookshelf on North Olympic Avenue.

The girl was said to have a knife, said Aaron Snell, an Everett police officer and spokesman for the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team.

The two officers who fired their guns have been placed on administrative duty, which is standard procedure.

SMART is investigating what happened between the girl and police leading up to the gunfire. No additional information was shared Wednesday.
