ARLINGTON — A 17-year-old girl who was shot Tuesday by two Arlington police officers allegedly had advanced toward them with a knife.
A disturbance was reported shortly before 5 a.m. Police found the girl lying in the street along North Olympic Drive, said Aaron Snell, an Everett officer and spokesman for the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team.
She was screaming, he said.
Detectives said evidence indicates there was a physical fight between the girl and her 18-year-old boyfriend before the 911 call was made.
When police tried to talk with the girl, she ran to a nearby car, Snell said. Officers tried again.
Witnesses reported that the girl got out of the car and advanced toward officers. She allegedly was carrying a knife.
Police tried to use an electronic stun gun to stop her, without success. After the gunfire, they summoned paramedics.
A knife was found at the scene.
The girl remained in serious condition Thursday in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
SMART, a group of detectives drawn from throughout the county, is continuing to investigate what was said and what happened between the girl and the officers. No new information was provided.
