EVERETT — A Lynnwood man has been arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide after a single-car crash Friday night.
Traffic Safety Unit detectives from the Everett Police Department arrested and booked the suspected driver.
They’d been called shortly after 8 p.m. to the 7700 block of Hardeson Road. That’s where patrol officers had found a damaged car in the roadway.
Earlier in the evening, an officer attempted to stop the vehicle as it drove northbound on 5th Avenue W without headlights. The car did not stop and sped off. The officer did not pursue, police said in a press release Saturday.
The driver fled before officers arrived. He left behind an injured man, 38, in the front passenger seat and an unresponsive woman in the back seat. Both were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett where the woman died, police said.
With tips from neighbors and the use of a police dog, the suspect, 30, was found hiding nearby. He was arrested for investigation of hit and run and vehicular homicide.
Police believe the vehicle continued northbound on 5th Avenue W onto Hardeson Road at a high rate of speed, crossed the centerline on a wide corner, left the road and struck a rock wall before coming to rest in the center of the roadway, police said.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has been asked to determine cause and manner of death.
The vehicle, a Nissan Altima, was impounded as evidence.
There was no medical update on the injured passenger.
