Expect rounds of snow over the weekend

EVERETT — Spotty lowland snow is expected this weekend and into the Monday morning commute.
Communities at the north end of Snohomish County and places above a 500-foot elevation could see up to an inch on the ground, National Weather Service meteorologist Johnny Burg said Friday. Areas near water or in the south part of the county may see snow falling, but it’s less likely to stick.
“The precipitation is going to be showery and will probably melt as it hits the ground,” he said.
The snow is expected during the nights and early mornings this weekend. It’s expected to start late Friday into early Saturday, return late Saturday into early Sunday, and make a third appearance late Sunday into early Monday.
Any accumulation likely would melt between snowfalls as temperatures during the day are expected to reach the high 30s or low 40s. At night, temperatures could drop near freezing.
“But we’re not looking at any kind of big hard freeze or anything like that,” Burg said.
“With the nature of snow in the hills, though, it could still make for some slippery conditions.”
The most important reminder is that Sunday night snow could affect the Monday morning commute, he said. Drivers should be prepared and allow extra time to adjust for traffic and weather.
