Front Porch: Lynnwood mayor to give state of city address June 1

Lynnwood Mayor Nicola Smith’s 2017 State of the City address has been set for 8 a.m. June 1 at the Lynnwood Convention Center. Smith is up for election in November.

Help the park: A spring cleaning party is planned for April 6 at Heritage Park on Poplar Way in Lynnwood. It runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a potluck lunch provided. To sign up, contact Marielle Harrington at 425-670-5532, mharrington@LynnwoodWA.gov.

Recycle electronics: A free recycling event is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 18 at Edmonds Community College. Accepted items include computers and parts, televisions, phones and tablets. Also bring paper and clean foam blocks. No packing peanuts.

Learn about police: The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office plans a Citizens Academy starting March 29. The free class will meet Wednesday evenings for 12 weeks on county-owned property along Cathcart Way. Apply by March 15, and expect a background check and two Saturday field trips. Human trafficking talk: Retired federal agent and Camano Island resident Lynda Buehring leads a panel discussion on “Forging Community Relationships to Combat Human Trafficking,” at a meeting of the Stanwood Camano American Association of University Women, 2 p.m. Thursday at the Camano Island Library, 848 N Sunrise Blvd. More info: 360-387-1004.
