Cascade Symphony Orchestra: The CSO Violin Festival is 7:30 p.m. March 13 at Edmonds Center for the Arts with the winners of Seattle Music Teachers Association Simon-Fiset String Competition. Blues and Brews Thursdays: Marysville Kiwanis Club joins the city in offering blues music and brews from a local microbrewery from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the third Thursdays at the Marysville Opera House, 1225 Third St.; 360-363-8400. $5 at the door. The entertainment continues with the Gin Joints on March 16.
Jazz at the Center: The Camano Center jazz series continues with Randy Halberstadt Trio &Jeff Johnson at 7 p.m. March 15. Tickets $20, but students are free with student ID. Call 360-387-0222. The center is at 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island.
Hot Java, Cool Jazz: The annual concert by Starbucks, featuring some of the region’s most talented young jazz musicians, is set for 7 p.m. March 17 at the Paramount Theatre, 911 Pine St., Seattle. Sno-King Community Chorale: The chorale, along with a children’s choir and orchestra, will present the West Coast premiere of Sir Karl Jenkins “Cantata Memoria — For the Children,” commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1966 disaster that killed 116 children when a coal mine slid into a school in Aberfan, South Wales. The concert is to be presented at 3 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. March 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St., Lynnwood. Monroe Concert Band: The bands’ Mostly Movie Music free concert for kids is set for 2 p.m. March 19 at Wagner Performing Arts Center, 639 W. Main St., Monroe.
Everett Youth Symphony: The orchestra’s winter concert is 4 p.m. March 19 at Jackson High School auditorium, 1508 136th St. SE, Mill Creek. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for teens and children.
“For the Love of Jimmy McLaughlin”: The Washington Blues Society presents an all-star benefit for musician Jim McLaughlin from 5 to 9 p.m. March 19 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave. McLaughlin, an Everett native, has lymphoma and now is in need of a liver transplant. He is a two-time world harmonica champion, a winner of the Washington Blues Society’s Harmonica Player of the Year award and Lifetime Achievement award. Choral Arts Northwest: The choir will perform a new work by John Muehleisen, “But Who Shall Return Us Our Children: A Kipling Passion.” The piece tells the story of Rudyard Kipling’s son who died in World War I and examines the sacrifices made by veterans and their families.
