Violin festival in Edmonds showcases young string contest winners
Lynnwood violinist Shintaro Taneda will perform the Allegro non troppo movement from Lalo’s “Symphonie Espagnole” on Monday evening with the Cascade Symphony Orchestra.

EDMONDS — Cascade Symphony Orchestra presents A Violin Festival on Monday evening featuring the brilliant winners of the Seattle Music Teachers Association’s Simon-Fiset String Competition.

Violinist Shintaro Taneda will perform the Allegro non troppo movement from Lalo’s “Symphonie Espagnole.” Shintaro is a sophomore at Lynnwood High School and a student of Margaret Pressley. He has won many other contests and has made debut performances with numerous orchestras in the region.

Violinist Kayla Yagi-Bacon will perform the Romance from Wieniawski’s “Concerto No. 2” and Sarate’s “Zapateado.” Kayla is a ninth-grade student at Northshore Junior High in Bothell. She also studies with Margaret Pressley, and also is a multi-contest winner and soloist.

And violinist Takumi Taguchi will perform Tchaikovsky’s “Valse-Scherzo.” Takumi is a Shorewood High School sophomore and a student of Simon James. He also is a prize winner and soloist.

The orchestra opens the concert with the Overture to the opera “The Tsar’s Bride” by Rimsky-Korsakov. The concert ends with Dvorak’s “Symphony No. 6.”
