Forget growing money on trees, let it rain

Money doesn’t grow on trees, but it can fall from the sky or make your life a walk in the park.
1. Raining dollars.
The city of Everett is giving $2,500 rebates to qualified homeowners who install approved rain gardens as part of its “Let it Rain” program that promotes reducing stormwater runoff, flooding and surface water pollution. Attend a one-hour workshop to learn about the program and request a site assessment of your property. Workshops are free and no registration is required: Dates are 10 a.m. March 18, Everett Public Works, 3200 Cedar St. and 7 p.m. March 23, Eisenhower Middle School, 10200 25th Ave. SE. 2. Free park-ing.
Washington State Parks turns 104 years old on March 19, and visitors are invited to help celebrate by visiting a state park for free that day. The free day is at more than 100 parks, trails and recreation sites statewide. It is the third of 12 State Parks “free days” in 2017, when visitors are not required to display the Discover Pass for day use visits to a park. More at www.discoverpass.wa.gov.
3. You might not be a loser after all.
So, none of your numbers matched on the scratch lottery ticket. Don’t toss that ticket in the trash just yet. Some tickets have second chance drawings for prizes. It will say on the ticket if there is a second chance option (most games don’t have it). Simply fill out the back and mail your non-winning ticket. Winners of prizes valued over $600 are notified by email or phone. More at www.walottery.com.
