Broadway is reopened fully after water main work completed

EVERETT — All lanes of Broadway Avenue are open again after city work crews completed a major water main replacement.
The workers installed 1,400 feet of pipe between 35th Street and Pacific Avenue. The cast iron pipe dated from the 1950s, a vintage of pipe that is prone to breaking duringcold weather.
Everett was plagued by a series of water main breaks last winter. The new pipe on Broadway is expected to improve water flow and reduce the risk of breakage.
The weather hasn’t cooperated with work crews this winter, however. The roadway is only temporarily patched, and drivers should expect a rough surface until early summer, when the city will be able to complete the resurfacing.
