Fourteen volunteers from the Lynnwood Kiwanis Club, a local service organization, recently cleaned, repaired and repackaged 825 pairs of eyeglasses. They were joined by two members of the Mountlake Terrace High School Key Club, the Kiwanis junior organization.

The event took place at College Place Optical in Edmonds. Owners Ron and Billie Swengel are both Kiwanis members.

The glasses were collected throughout the year. Most of the refurbished glasses will now be sent to the Montesano-based Eyecare Wecare Foundation, which provides free eyecare and eyeglasses in the Philippines. Some may also be sent to Mexico and Africa.

Glasses can be donated at College Place Optical (8325 212th St. SW, Suite 104, Edmonds) or at the Lynnwood Fire Station (18800 44th Ave. W).

Meanwhile, the club also recently donated $2,000 to local nonprofit Clothes For Kids.

“Kiwanis Club of Lynnwood has long supported Clothes For Kids and their mission to provide clothing to Snohomish County and Northshore School District children in need,” Lynnwood Kiwanis President Ron Swengelsaid.
