Traffic light adjustment might create slowdowns on Highway 9

CLEARVIEW — There may be slowdowns Saturday on Highway 9 south of Snohomish while the state Department of Transportation works on traffic lights.
Lights along the highway through Clearview are being changed to give more green light time to northbound drivers on Highway 9. It’s part of an effort to relieve congestion on that stretch of the highway until there is funding to widen it.
East and west bound traffic on 164th Street SE now will have green lights at the same time rather than separate shifts, and drivers who are turning will need to yield. A new flashing yellow arrow also is being put in to let drivers on the highway make left turns during gaps in traffic.
From 6 a.m. to noon, the signals may be temporarily set to flash red while they are reconfigured. Drivers should treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Left turn lanes also may be closed.
