EVERETT — The firefighters union at Snohomish County Fire District 1 has taken a no-confidence vote in two elected commissioners who made racially charged remarks last month.
The unanimous vote was taken Friday. The union, Local 1828, issued a press release and statement Tuesday afternoon.
Commissioners Bob Meador and David Chan were accidentally recorded during a break in a meeting March 7 as they joked about hiring Mexican immigrants. Meador and Chan later agreed to accept written reprimands and both penned apology letters. They have declined to resign.
“We continue to be disgusted … we ask both of them to step down from their elected positions immediately,” Union President Thad Hovis said in the news release.
The union represents more than 200 firefighters and paramedics.
