Green Garden, Green Home series: Everett Arboretum and Gardens president Trevor Cameron will take participants on a tour from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 25 to explore the current renovations happening on site at Legion Hall, 145 Alverson Blvd. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. on May 2, learn from Snohomish Conservation District staff and WSU master gardeners how to attract more pollinators and use wildlife for pest control at the wildlife-friendly gardening lecture at Legion Hall. Free.
Rain barrels: The city of Everett will sell ready-made 55-gallon rain barrels for $55 from 9 a.m. to noon April 29, 3201 Cedar St. “Make it, Take it” workshops are 7 p.m. May 9 and 10 a.m. June 3, 3101 Cedar St., to make your own for $40 (one 55-gallon barrel and necessary parts included). Let it rain: Walking tour of rain gardens in north Everett. See examples of how rain gardens help homeowners manage drainage issues and learn about the city’s rain garden rebate program. Rhodies: Rhododendron Society Truss Show, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22, Sunnyside Nursery, 3915 Sunnyside Blvd., Marysville. Free event in partnership with the American Rhododendron Society, Pilchuck Chapter.
PlantFest Northwest: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 22 at the Evergreen Arboretum, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett, to help plant native plants. Tools will be provided and volunteers will be on hand to get you started. This is a family friendly event. Everyone will get a native plant to take home. Butterflies: Northwest Perennial Alliance presents “Butterflies of Cascadia: Life Histories and Conservation” with David G. James, at noon April 23, Aaron Education Center at Bellevue Botanical Garden, 12001 Main St. The importance of conserving our butterflies will be explored and highlighted, as well as things gardeners can do to help preserve these iconic winged jewels. Doors open at noon for book signing, NPA plants for sale and free asclepias seeds (milkweed) for monarchs. Lecture begins at 1 p.m. Free for members, $15 for non-members. Learn about the comprehensive palette of outstanding plants that have been chosen for the master gardener bed at the arboretum. This program recommends outstanding plants for the maritime Pacific Northwest. Meet at the front entrance of the arboretum.

Scholarships
Mukilteo Way Garden Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship for classes in the horticulture department of Edmonds Community College for the 2017-18 academic year. Applicants are not required to be seeking a degree in horticulture. Graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply as well as adult learners and current horticulture students at EdCC. Floretum Garden Club of Edmonds is offering a $1,500 scholarship to a 2017 high school graduate, community college student or individual planning a career in a horticultural field. The applicant will be selected based on interest in horticulture, floral design, landscape design, botany, forestry or a related field. The recipient may attend any community college, college or university in Washington. Scholarship application forms are available from the school’s scholarship office, horticulture department or by emailing JoyceJohnson310@comcast.net. Deadline is May 8.
Monroe Garden Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior or a college student pursuing a degree in some aspect of horticulture at an accredited college or trade school. Studies may include forestry, botany, landscaping, floral design, etc. Applicants must reside in or within about 20 miles of Monroe. Deadline for application is May 1. Arlington Garden Club is offering a $2,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior who plans to attend an accredited university or college in Washington during the 2017-18 academic year. Applicants are required to be enrolled full time (12 or more credits) in a program related to one of the following: horticulture, agriculture, forestry, husbandry or environmental science. Eligible high schools are Arlington, Darrington, Lakewood, Lake Stevens or Stanwood.
