Gaze: Check out the sky, learn about planets

Celebrate National Astronomy Day — both outside and indoors.

See the moon, planets and other outer-space objects with the Everett Astronomical Society, 6 to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Harborview Park, 1621 Mukilteo Blvd., Everett. For ages 5 and older.

An astronomy celebration also is set for 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Saturday at the Everett Public Library Evergreen Branch, 9512 Evergreen Way. Handle a meteorite sample, learn about sunspots and solar prominences, look through a telescope, and get the low-down on the big total solar eclipse coming this summer that has folks excited.

Apply: It’s once again time to join a parade

Everett’s Colors of Freedom Fourth of July parade is taking applications for entrants.

All parade applicants will be reviewed by the Parade Committee and will be selected based on entertainment value, creativity, enhancement of the parade’s theme, and incorporation of music.

Shine: Marysville festival seeks talent

The Marysville Strawberry Festival Talent Show seeks contestants.

The deadline for entries is May 5. Auditions will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. May 9 and May 10. The talent show is June 15.

All ages, solo acts or groups, are invited to showcase their vocal, dance, comedy and other skills.

Learn: Free fair for youth mental health

The Snohomish County Children and Youth Mental Wellness Fair is set for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. May 6 at Evergreen Middle School, 7621 Beverly Lane, Everett. This free event is aimed at youth and their families, along with teachers, social service agencies and others.

Kids can play 3-on-3 basketball with police officers, watch “Inside Out,” get free family photos, take art classes, enjoy hip-hop and musical theater, and much more.

A variety of workshops will be offered, with no registration required. Topics include “Managing Screen Time,” “Growing up GLBTQ,” “Signs and Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety,” and more.

More than 40 agencies will provide information at resource tables.
