EVERETT — Originally from East Los Angeles, Los Lobos has earned international stardom and its solid reputation as a great American rock ‘n’ roll band.
The Wolves (in English) play music influenced by traditional styles such as cumbia, boleros and nortenos. Los Lobos also incorporates Tex-Mex, country, soul, zydeco, roots rock, Americana folk, R&B and the blues.
The Grammy award-winning and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominated band — perhaps best known for its cover of Richie Valens’ “La Bamba” — is performing May 13 at the Historic Everett Theatre. This could be a real Mother’s Day weekend treat for many women of a certain age, and for anyone who loves rock.
Unlike many bands that have been around for decades, Los Lobos has maintained its membership. And the instruments they play include many Mexican traditional stringed instruments, including requinto jarocho, jarana huasteca, bajo sexto and guitarron.
Louie Perez sings, plays guitars and drums. Cesar Rosas sings and plays guitar and mandolin. Conrad Lozana sings and plays bass. David Hidalgo sings and plays guitar, accordion, bass, keyboards, melodica, violin, banjo, percussion. Steve Berlin plays woodwinds and keyboards. Enrique Gonzalez plays drums.
The band has opened for Bob Dylan, U2, the Grateful Dead and Neil Young. They have recorded with Tom Waits, Mavis Staples and Elvis Costello. They’ve provided music for a number of movie soundtracks.
And they are performing right here in Everett. Don’t miss this one.
