Kay Goosman: You sacrificed everything for us

We asked readers to tell us what they love about their moms. Kids from 17 to well over 70 entered The Herald’s Mother’s Day contest. The winner received a $100 gift card to Renee’s Contemporary Clothing in Everett. But there were many other heartfelt stories. You can find all of them here.
Son: Gene Goosman, Mukilteo
Mom: Kay Goosman
Mom raised seven children through the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s and ’70s (four boys and three girls). She sacrificed everything to see that we had all the basic needs. She was a great and loving mother, and her “kids” could do no wrong and she was very strict with us.
The last time I saw my mother was four years ago in Arizona where she moved to help her three daughters anyway she could. She knew it would be our last time together and it was a very emotional time. I am sure she cried herself to sleep. She cared for us daily until her passing at the age of 90.
P.S. Most mothers deserve to win the $100 just for being a mother. Should I win, please give it to a deserving mother in the battered women’s shelter.
